Deposits in shared houses: who owns what

Housemately editorial · Ireland · 2026-07-31

In a shared house the deposit is usually one pot held by the landlord, while housemates track who contributed what. When someone leaves, the leavers and stayers need a clear split — not an escrow account on a website. Housemately’s Deposit Split tool does integer-cent maths only. We never hold deposits, rent, or peer-to-peer funds. For disputes about return of deposit, use RTB processes.
